You can search for days without finding that one site that will teach you the basics. Read this article for a good idea on the basics and get some great links to resources.
The first thing that you should learn is HTML which stands for Hypertext Markup Language. This isn't a programming language but it is the building blocks that holds website together. You can use HTML for the overall structure of the website.
Recent developments have brought about HTML5 which has some cool new features however, I recommend some knowledge of HTML before attempting anything fancy.

W3Schools is a reputable Internet Developer Portal, they cover a vast amount of topics from HTML, ASP, PHP to Web Services. For many of their tutorials, they use a "Try it yourself editor" which is perfect for testing out your newly learn knowledge. I highly reccommend this site to everyone.
